Stephen Sills and The Rockwood Company represent a multitude of organizations, both directly and indirectly (through Excess and Surplus Lines contracts). Steve can access virtually any global market. On a regular basis he represents over thirty property/casualty underwriters, and a similar number of life and health insurance underwriters. In addition, Steve has working partnerships with loss control and claims consultants, giving you access to these services if needed.

Steve strives to place business with underwriters who have an industry rating of "A" or better in order to provide our customers with the finest protection available in the marketplace. Industry ratings are provided by independent rating services that focus solely on the application of standards to insurance companies to assure financial soundness, sufficiency of reserves, claims paying ability, etc. The most prominent rating services are A.M. Best Company, Moody's, and Standard & Poors.

New underwriters are consistently coming into being, and as such, are not rated for a period of at least five years. Thus, because ratings are not available, we have a due diligence process to assure financial security for our customers when providing coverage through new and/or non-rated companies.
